The purpose of locking nuts is to lock open wire external joints or other pipe fittings.
The working principle of nuts is self-locking by friction between nuts and bolts. But the reliability of this self-locking will be reduced in dynamic load. On some important occasions, we will take some measures to prevent loosening to ensure the reliability of nut locking. Locking nut is one of the measures to prevent loosening.
There are three kinds of locking nuts:
The first is to screw two identical nuts on the same bolt, and add a tightening moment between the two nuts to make the bolt connection reliable.
The second one is a special anti-loosening nut, which needs to be used with a kind of anti-loosening gasket. The special anti-loosening nut is not a hexagonal nut, but a middle round nut. There are three, four, six or eight notches on the circumference of the nut (depending on the size of the nut and the product series of the manufacturer). These notches are not only the focus of tightening tools, but also the entrance of the anti-loosening gasket card.
The third method is to drill threaded holes (usually 2 holes with 90 distribution on the outer surface) from the outer surface of the nut to the inner surface of the nut, which are used to screw in small diameter countersunk head screw. The purpose is to exert a centripetal force on the thread to prevent the locking nut from loosening. The locking nuts with good quality sold on the market are enclosed with small copper blocks on the inner surface of the nut which are identical to the thread of the locking nut, so as to avoid the damage of the latter caused by the direct contact between the radial tightening screw and the locked thread. This kind of locking nut is gradually applied in the case of axle end locking of rotating moving parts, such as the anti-loosening of bearing at the installation end of ball screw.
The second method is more reliable than the first one, but its structure is relatively complex. Compared with the first two, the third clock has better anti-loosening effect, simpler and more beautiful structure, and smaller axial dimension.
